COG-SUT Seminar

Challenges of Using and Maintaining Modern Technology Underwater

City Conference Centre, London

24 June 2008

Oil Platform

The use of advanced technology in the subsea arena continues to grow at an ever increasing rate across all industry sectors. In parallel the demands for long term reliability and availability continue to rise. Working against these twin challenges is the component supply market which now focuses almost exclusively on commercial life cycles, often as short as 18 months. The aim of this seminar is to not only highlight to all stakeholders in the underwater technology sector some of the problems that obsolescence causes but also how these risks can and are being effectively managed. The morning is devoted to bench marking the problems faced by organisations working in the subsea / underwater technology section and an overview of generic obsolescence management methods. In the afternoon the seminar will move onto look at the current areas of concern relevant to maintaining subsea technology before concluding with a supplier case study showing how obsolescence can be effectively managed with the necessary level of organisational focus.

This seminar is relevant to all individuals or organisations working with or using technology containing electronics in the subsea / underwater sector, including oil & gas, ocean scientific, underwater robotics and marine renewable. The seminar is being jointly run by the Society for Underwater Technology and the Component Obsolescence Group. The programme and registration form can be seen here.
