IMAPS and Microelectronic Packaging Evolution
IMAPS-UK is one of the leading organisations involved with Microelectronics and supports the aim of bringing together UK industry and Academia in an environment of commonality. It has developed from a learned society into an organisation that can lead the Microelectronics Packaging, Interconnect and Assembly Community, providing means of communicating, educating, and interacting at all levels. It is part of an International Organisation that has been around, in one form or another for just over 40 years. In that time the electronics industry has changed dramatically, continually pushing the boundaries of engineering to provide new applications to serve the needs of gadget hungry consumers. This presentation looks at where the industry has come from, some of the developments that have come about and looks at where technology may take us in the coming years. In doing so, it indicates what role organisations such as IMAPS must adopt in order to survive the next 40 years and to service its membership as well as the whole industry community.
