| The Hidden Cost of Obsolescence This presentation seeks to explore the cost of failing to observe good obsolescence management. By first defining the meaning of “hidden cost” and then outlining the various “good” obsolescence management practices that should be implemented. | Obsolescence Cost Metrics In 1999, the US DoD commissioned a report to determine Cost metrics for various obsolescence solutions. These were published and remained the only cost metrics available in the public domain. The UK MoD realized that there was a requirement for metrics that were more applicable to the UK Defence environment. In 2004,Technical Enabling Services, an organization within the MoD, published a report which established UK Cost Metrics. This presentation will outline the background, the approach and conclusions of that report and will examine the methodology for calculating cost avoidance for various obsolescence solutions.
