| Optimising the value of lifetime buy & alternate source components While there are many strategies for managing obsolescence, OEM’s and their manufacturing partners eventually deal with lifetime buys and alternative sources of components. There needs to be a comprehensive program to ensure, with a high degree of certainty, that the components will be useable for production. A better understanding of which components could be useable also increases the number of sources available to procurement. Strategies discussed will include: detection and conversion of non-compliant termination finishes, restoration for poor solderability, scan and recondition of bent leads, and packaging for long-term storage.
