Oil Industry Obsolescence Management |
| Case Studies in the Oil and Gas Industry Manufacturers of Subsea Electronic Control Systems intended for subsea and topside permanent, long term installations have become accustomed to the need to manage the obsolescence of electronic components for units that have an intended service life of 25 or even 30 years. In the past a fairly ad-hoc approach has been taken to resolving the problem on a reactive basis. This presentation initially reviews a number of historical case studies and shows how different techniques have been applied to successfully overcome obsolescence challenges. It will then review how a more proactive and interactive approach can be taken in the future by learning from best practice from similar industries. Rod Tester, Vetco Gray, 25-Nov-08 |
